The Taoist system currently taught by Grand Master Mantak Chia is primarily based on the Nine Alchemic Formulas of the Taoist hermit, Yi Eng, known as “One Cloud.” These formulas were transmitted to Mantak Chia by Master Yi in the 1970’s in the mountains surrounding Hong Kong. For centuries, these self-care practices were kept secret. Taoist masters shared them with emperors and empresses, but not with common folk. As the Vietnamese War inched closer to his homeland of Thailand, Master Chia immigrated to the United States. He lived in New York City and began to openly teach the formerly secretive practices — one of the earliest Taoist Masters to do so. He since returned to Thailand to establish Tao Garden, a world-class integrative Holistic Health Clinic and Spa. He continues to travel the world to teach. Over the past 30-plus years, more than 2,000 of Master Chia’s students have become certified to teach one or more of the various courses in the system. "I have come upon Master Chia's Taoist practice in my old age and find it the most satisfying and enriching practice of all those I have encountered in a long life of seeking and practicing."
